2023 Champions League Final
Written by Jake Weber
The 2023 Champions League final has been set between Manchester City of England and Inter Milan of Italy. Inter made it into the final after defeating their bitter inner city rivals AC Milan 3-0 on aggregate while Manchester City defeated the reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid 5-1 over two legs.
For Inter Milan, beating Man City would earn them their 4th Champions League in their history and their first since their historic treble win in 2010. The treble being when a team wins their domestic league, their domestic cup, and the Champions League all in the same season. While Inter don’t have a chance at this having lost the league to Napoli, Manchester City are on the verge of becoming only the 10th team to ever accomplish this goal and only the 2nd English team to do so. They could match the historic achievement of their bitter rivals Manchester United who won the treble in 1999.
Inter Milan enter the game led by the Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. They also feature young talents like Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni. However, despite their talented squad they are considered massive underdogs to their English counterpart.
Manchester City have never won the Champions League. For most of their history they were a lower first division or second division team in England, but after some incredibly wealthy investors bought the club in the early 2010’s their ambitions have grown greatly. Thanks to the management of Pep Guardiola, who is considered one of the greatest coaches in the world right now, Man City find themselves in position to win their first ever European trophy. With players like Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, and the prolific Erling Haaland, it would be hard to bet against the Citizens.
The final will be played in the neutral city of Istanbul on June 10th.
